Innovative ecosystem
Medical Care
Alongside the face-to-face care offered at its 131 own centres, two hospital management units and two intermutual hospitals, which together handled more than 1.3 million primary care visits, more than 507,000 rehabilitation sessions and more than 6,500 hospital admissions in 2025, workers covered by Mutua Universal have access to the benefits of the Online Clinic, an advanced telemedicine system implemented across all the organisation’s healthcare centres, which guarantees access to specialist and hospital healthcare regardless of geographical location.
This service ensures that people do not need to travel far, speeds up diagnosis, reduces waiting times and helps balance family and work life, thereby improving patients’ and their families’ quality of life, increasing efficiency and guaranteeing continuity of healthcare treatments, while also contributing to environmental sustainability.

Healthcare innovation
At Mutua Universal, we draw on the latest innovative technologies in the fields of medicine and physiotherapy to improve and streamline diagnoses and treatments, and to personalise healthcare.
Telerehabilitation
In order to provide rehabilitation services, the organisation’s centres are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by professionals with extensive experience and training. They are supported online by leading physiotherapists via a telerehabilitation platform that complements the face-to-face physiotherapy sessions.
Using an advanced artificial intelligence system, Mutua Universal’s telerehabilitation service makes it possible to carry out rehabilitation programmes from home via the camera on a mobile device or computer, provided that the healthcare team deems it appropriate.
Benefits of telerehabilitation
- Telerehabilitation reduces patient travel to healthcare centres.
- It enables the physiotherapy team to constantly monitor the process through a hybrid treatment model alternating face-to-face and digital sessions.
- The service involves the patient directly in their recovery process, which leads to better treatment outcomes.

Mutua Universal and Barcelona & Madrid Health Hub are collaborating to accelerate the digital transformation of the healthcare sector
Mutua Universal joined the Barcelona & Madrid Health Hub, an internationally recognised centre of excellence in digital health, aiming to create synergies that will drive research, innovation and the validation of new digital solutions for the healthcare ecosystem. This collaboration allows us to identify emerging trends, work alongside key stakeholders in the ecosystem and validate solutions in real-world settings, thus helping to make a positive impact on patients, healthcare professionals, companies and partner organisations.
Predictive artificial intelligence
Using artificial intelligence, the Lince project is able to reliably analyse large amounts of historical data held by the mutual insurance company. The ultimate goal is to design predictive models that are made available to the healthcare sector to make management more efficient, anticipate situations and processes, and personalise care.
Electronic Prescription
Mutua Universal has signed an agreement with the General Council of the Official Pharmacists Association to introduce electronic prescriptions so that medicines, medical devices and other prescription products can be dispensed to all of the organisation’s patients who have suffered a work-related accident or occupational illness. This project will be rolled out during 2026.
Electronic prescriptions are now available at Mutua Universal
What is Mutua Universal’s electronic prescription (ePrescription)?
This tool is used by healthcare professionals to authorise medicines and medical devices to be dispensed in pharmacies, replacing paper prescriptions. It ensures that prescriptions can be traced, monitored and renewed in a secure manner.
What is a patient information sheet?
This is the document that medical staff provide to patients that contains information about their current treatment, whether on paper or by email.
How are the patient information sheets provided?
If the patient has signed the “informed consent” form, the sheet can be sent to them by email. Otherwise, it will be provided in paper format at the time of their visit.
What does the patient need to present at the pharmacy to collect a pharmaceutical product that has been prescribed via an electronic prescription?
The patient must present the QR code included in the patient information sheet, whether on paper or from an email.
Do electronic prescriptions expire?
Yes, they do. You have 10 days to collect your medication and/or medical supplies from the pharmacy.
Can I collect my medication from any pharmacy?
Yes, at any pharmacy. While the system is being rolled out, you must collect your medication from a pharmacy in the same province where it was prescribed.
Healthcare technologies
The gradual introduction of new healthcare technologies is one of Mutua Universal’s strategic priorities, seeking to bolster safe, efficient and evidence-based care.
The integration of advanced diagnostic, functional assessment and treatment tools helps to improve quality of care, optimise clinical processes and ensure a consistent, high-quality experience for patients.
INNOVATIVE THERAPEUTIC TECHNIQUES
Diamagnetic Pump
- This painless, non-invasive technology uses high-intensity, low-frequency magnetic fields to generate a diamagnetic effect capable of displacing fluids, reducing oedema, modulating inflammatory processes and inducing cellular biostimulation, thus promoting tissue repair and enabling pain neuromodulation.
Superinductive therapy
- Superinductive therapy is a neuromodulation and musculoskeletal stimulation technique that uses high-intensity electromagnetic fields on peripheral nerves, muscles, joints and deep tissues to reduce pain, improve mobility, enhance muscle contraction and speed up functional recovery.
AlterG
- The AlterG anti-gravity treadmill is an advanced piece of rehabilitation equipment that enables an early and safe functional recovery from musculoskeletal injuries by partially reducing body weight, thus reducing the load on the lower limbs.
Diathermy
- This physiotherapy technique uses electromagnetic energy to generate deep heat within tissues, promoting increased blood flow and tissue regeneration, which helps to reduce pain, improve mobility and speed up functional recovery in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries.
Percutaneous electrolysis
- Percutaneous electrolysis applies a galvanic current via an ultrasound-guided needle to stimulate muscle, tendon, fascial and entheseal tissue repair processes.
EVALUATION TECHNIQUES
Lynx System
- Using this sensor-based biomechanical analysis system, Mutua Universal’s team of medical professionals can carry out objective, quantifiable assessments of musculoskeletal function in patients before, during and after treatment.
This tool enhances the evaluation and ongoing monitoring of conditions and makes it possible to plan and follow up on therapy in a manner tailored to each individual’s needs.
Clinical thermography
- This imaging technique records thermal patterns on the skin, making it possible to detect asymmetries and temperature variations associated with inflammatory, circulatory or neuropathic processes.
Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
- This tool provides real-time visualisation of muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and soft tissues, and makes it possible to identify work-related injuries such as tendinopathies, muscle fibre tears, bursitis and entrapment syndromes.
Investment in Care Centre Upgrades
As part of its programme for the ongoing improvement of its healthcare network, Mutua Universal has invested 2.5 million euros in the refurbishment and maintenance of its centres, as well as 6.5 million euros in new facilities.
