In 2024, Mutua Universal made progress on the objectives set out in its current strategic plan, continuing to build a corporate culture centred on people and the humanisation of workplace relationships. The organisation is evolving into a more innovative, efficient and inclusive model, supported by a skilled and committed team.
Team
The mutual society’s activity in 2024 led to the recruitment of 229 new professionals, 81% of whom were healthcare workers. This group now represents 52% of the total workforce.
Mutua Universal ended 2024 with a total workforce of 2,059 professionals, all employed on permanent contracts.

Our commitment to people
+Health +Life Health and wellbeing programme
The +Health +Life programme was launched to encourage healthy lifestyles among the people who make up Mutua Universal. Through the Biwel health and wellbeing platform, a wide range of structured activities, challenges and personalised programmes are offered to support employees over time.
Biwel is a comprehensive platform that promotes physical wellbeing (“Get Moving”), healthy eating (“Eat Well”) and emotional health (“Feel Good”). It offers a wide range of resources tailored to each individual’s needs and pace, all in one accessible space.
The programme was rolled out on 3 December 2024 with a gamified communication campaign aimed at raising awareness of the platform among workers and encouraging sign-ups and ongoing engagement.
Training and talent

Intellectual capital is the driving force behind Mutua Universal. For this reason, the organisation invests in its people by offering continuous professional development programmes for all staff.
In 2024, Mutua Universal employees took part in 820 training activities – 79% of them organised in-house – amounting to over 100,000 hours of training, delivered both face-to-face and online.

Recognition of Mutua Universal's direct payment e-processing system

Mutua Universal’s “Direct Payment E-Processing” project – designed to assist partner advisory firms in processing direct payment applications for temporary incapacity benefits for self-employed workers – was a finalist in the 16th edition of the Aslan Awards for Digital Transformation in Public Administration. These awards recognise successful digital transformation projects and the commitment to delivering improved services, greater efficiency and cost optimisation.
The project was also selected as a finalist in the 7th edition of the ABB Ability Awards for Digitalisation and Sustainability, which recognise initiatives that use digital technologies to contribute to sustainable development across environmental, social and economic dimensions.

Mutua Universal’s internal initiative, “Committed in the Metaverse”, which involves creating an immersive virtual environment to enhance staff engagement with environmental, social and ethical sustainability, was awarded first prize in 2024 at the Digital Innovation Awards organised by the newspaper El Norte de Castilla, as well as the top prize at the 15th edition of the Corresponsables Awards.
The project was also a finalist and runner-up at the 8th Responsible Communication Observatory (OCARE) Awards.

Mutua Universal was a finalist in the first edition of the WomenCeo Awards thanks to its “Good Corporate Governance: Commitment to Diversity, Equality and Non-Discrimination” project, which includes actions and initiatives that promote and strengthen female leadership within the framework of the organisation’s good corporate governance strategy.
Social Work and Socio-Occupational Reintegration Service recognised at the Supercuidadores [Supercaregivers] Awards

Mutua Universal’s Social Work and Socio-Occupational Reintegration Service received second prize at the 10th edition of the Supercuidadores Awards, which recognise the work of carers, companies and institutions that improve the quality of life of older people, those living with illness, disability and/or dependency.
Award for Best Scientific Poster at the National Congress of the Spanish Society for Occupational Traumatology

This award was granted for the best scientific poster presented at the National Congress of the Spanish Society for Occupational Traumatology for the work titled “Change Management in the Implementation of a Hybrid Care Model”. The study highlights the significance of change management in introducing a hybrid, comprehensive health model that combines both face-to-face and remote care.

Scientific research is essential and drives medical advances that improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses, thereby enhancing the quality of care provided to our patients.
Work-life balance and equality
Mutua Universal’s commitment to the health of its members is also reflected internally through the care and wellbeing of its staff.
To support this, it offers a comprehensive value proposition providing both professional and personal benefits, prioritising work-life balance as a key focus, through measures established in the Collective Agreement and the organisation’s Second Equality Plan.
During 2024, staff benefited from over 11,000 work-life balance measures and employee benefits included in the Second Equality Plan, collective agreements and current applicable regulations.
