Telerehabilitation
To support rehabilitation, Mutua Universal’s centres are equipped with the most advanced technological equipment and staffed by professionals with extensive experience and training, supported by leading physiotherapists both in person and online.
Additionally, the entity offers a platform for telerehabilitation treatments as a complementary tool to face-to-face physiotherapy sessions.
This innovative service incorporates an artificial intelligence system that, through a computer or mobile phone camera, can conduct telerehabilitation sessions in real time, correcting patients’ incorrect movements and positions during their recovery process at home, as well as monitoring their progress by Mutua Universal’s healthcare staff.
BENEFITS OF TELEREHABILITATION
- Reduces patient trips to healthcare centres.
- Involves the patient in the recovery process, achieving better results.
- Enables continuous monitoring by the physiotherapy team in a hybrid treatment model, alternating face-to-face and telerehabilitation sessions.

Virtual reality applied to mental health
In 2023, Mutua Universal initiated a review and improvement of the approach to evaluating and treating mental health problems to address the new challenges arising from the progressive increase in mental health issues in the general population, and consequently in the working population, in recent years. This increase has been particularly significant since the pandemic and has occurred in a social context of perceived greater uncertainty about the future. This translates into the need to integrate a global health perspective, where mental health is given the same level of attention as physical health.
VIRTUAL REALITY SERVICE APPLIED TO OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH
This technology focuses on psychological assessment for treating post-traumatic stress disorders caused by workplace accidents, which can interfere with workers’ daily tasks and quality of life.
The use of virtual reality in occupational health for mental conditions enhances therapy effectiveness, accelerates rehabilitation, and reduces sick leave duration to normalise activity.
At Mutua Universal, we have our own psychology and psychiatry team, which, through our telemedicine system (Online Clinic), can visit workers at any of our healthcare centres.
In addition, we have an extensive support network with external psychiatry and psychology professionals and centres.
The organisation has also implemented voice recognition software in the psychology service. This development enables the dictation of medical reports optimised to recognise scientific terminology, acronyms, and abbreviations.
Telemedicine via mobile
This service, accessible from Mutua Universal’s Private Personal Area, accelerates diagnosis, reduces waiting times, and promotes work-life balance. This enhancement improves patients’ and their families’ quality of life, increases efficiency, and ensures continuity of care.

EConsultation
Through eConsultation, accessible in the Private Area, our protected population can conveniently contact the care team (including medical, nursing, or physiotherapy staff) who visited them within the last 15 days. They can seek clarification on medication regimens, prescribed care, or complications in their recovery, all without the need to travel.

Analytical and predictive models
At Mutua Universal, we have the most innovative technological solutions based on artificial intelligence for advanced and secure data analysis.
By studying large amounts of historical information and detecting patterns and trends, we design predictive models. These models enhance management efficiency and anticipate situations and processes, helping our healthcare teams make the best decisions tailored to each patient. This allows us to offer excellent and personalised care.

Innovation applied to prevention
At Mutua Universal we provide our associated companies and protected and affiliated workers with the best and most innovative tools and services in the field of prevention management: a help in the reduction of accidents and the prevention of occupational risks.
In 2023, Mutua Universal, within the current legal framework, provided advice on accident reduction and occupational risk prevention to more than 5,400 member companies and 400,000 workers. This has led to a 13% reduction in the accident rate among companies with the highest accident rate indicators.
Within the framework of the Plan of Preventive Activities of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration for advice to associated companies, protected population and self-employed workers, Mutua Universal develops programs and activities of advice, technical guidance and assistance.
It also carries out research, development and innovation activities so that member companies can carry out effective management in the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases
Ergonomics laboratory
Located in the Mutua Universal centre in the Arazuri-Orcoyen industrial estate (Navarre), the company’s Ergonomics Laboratory offers a pioneering and distinctive service in Spain. Its work focuses on preventing repetitive injuries and long-term sick leave by finding solutions to musculoskeletal problems that affect the working environment.
Currently, the laboratory seeks opportunities for improvement to reduce the accident rate related to overexertion, forced postures, manual handling of loads, or repetitive movements.
Thus, during 2023, Mutua Universal’s Ergonomics Laboratory continued to study and design good practices in the sectors with the greatest ergonomic risk.
THE LINES OF WORK DEVELOPED IN 2023 NOTABLY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING
- Continuation and completion of the study initiated in 2022 on the impact of bed elevation systems on the musculoskeletal health of people who work as housekeepers.
This comparative study examines the physical effort involved in making different types of beds to identify the most ergonomic bed lifts and work techniques for workers. - Study and analysis of ergonomic risk factors and proposals for improvement in the banana sector.
Ergonomics is the discipline of designing workplaces, tools, and tasks to align with the physiological, anatomical, and psychological characteristics and abilities of the workers involved
Bienestar Universal Platform
Bienestar Universal is Mutua Universal’s health and healthy habits promotion programme for managing, understanding, assessing, and improving the health and well-being of workers, as well as the sustainability of the organisation.
The programme, which is adapted to the needs, characteristics, and objectives defined in each member company, includes advice, activities, and materials for awareness-raising and dissemination, as well as a web platform that supports the management of information and the monitoring of health indicators.
The Bienestar Universal platform provides support for the following Mutua Universal prevention and health promotion campaigns:
PREVENTION APPs

Technical Guidance Days
In 2023, Mutua Universal conducted over one hundred online Technical Guidance Days within the current legal framework to provide advice, technical guidance, and assistance to member companies and their employees on reducing the accident rate and preventing occupational hazards. The aim of these workshops, which in 2023 were attended by more than 3,000 people from member companies, is to promote effective management in the prevention of workplace accidents and occupational illnesses.
Acknowledgements 3 years 0 accidents
In 2023, Mutua Universal recognised the commitment of its member companies to prevention and employee care by awarding the “3 years 0 accidents” diplomas to companies that have maintained a zero accident rate over the past three years.
Accident Observatory
During 2023, Mutua Universal launched the Accident Observatory, a study analysing the annual workplace accidents managed by the company through the main related indicators.
“Mutua Universal’s Accident Observatory is a very useful tool. The data extracted should help companies create strategies and actions to reduce workplace accidents and foster occupational risk prevention: ‘Because without health and safety in companies there can be neither productivity nor competitiveness,’ stressed Carlos Arranz, director of the National Institute for Health and Safety at Work, during the presentation of the first edition of Mutua Universal’s Accident Observatory.”
